Olivier Rousteing, who assisted Christophe Decarnin these past years is the new Creative Director of the french fashion house, few weeks after the departure of one of the most talented designer of this century.
Even if Olivier used to run Balmain’s womenswear design studio I suppose that Balmain was looking for a fresh start naming a still unknown designer.
I barely know the work of that designer and I’m really thrilled to see what he has prepared for the next shows/seasons.
The future will tell us if Rousteing got the guts to face the pressure taking the place of a charismatic character who rejuvanated Balmain.
As Christophe Decarnin is turning coucou the label finally decided to show him the door; according to some reports the designer is suffering from mental illness.
Balmain should make a statement about his replacement in the next two or three days.
Stylist Melanie Ward, who joined Balmain following the departure of new French Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt, was rumored to be in the running to replace Decarnin, but right now new names are in the air.
Do you smell what Balmain is coocking?!
Christophe was an unknown dude when he came to Balmain, and the owners want to support an even lesser-known designer.
Does that mean that the astronomically priced tight sequined minidresses, worn-in jeans, and ripped T-shirts are over?
To be continued…
